Among the Living Ch.03 by ~SourCandy1234:iconSourCandy1234:

Sakura sighed as she climbed up the tree. "Careful Sakura." Gaara warned her. She ignored him as she took a seat on a high branch.

"Gaara! It's so pretty up here." She smiled widely. Gaara shook his head, and leaned against the tree. She looked down, and smirked. She jumped off, Gaara turned around, and caught her barely in time. "Crap. Sorry Gaara." She smiled innocently, his eyes narrowed but he shrugged it off. He put Sakura down gently.

"I'm not even going to comment on that." Gaara muttered.

"Sakura!" A familiar blonde haired girl ran to them.

"Has it ever occurred to you how alike Ino-san's and Deidara's hair style is?" Sakura questioned Gaara. Before he could answer Ino was in front of them.

"Hey Sakura, I was wondering if you were done with that book yet." Ino smiled politely. "It's fine if you're not. Just wanted to know."

Sakura shook her head. "No I'm done. It's in my room. Why don't you come? I'm sure my sister won't mind." She started walking towards the dorm room, and knocked on the door. "Hinata? I have a guest."

"Come in." Sakura opened the door. Hinata was sitting on the bed reading a book. "Oh! You must be Ino-san." Hinata scrambled up and bowed politely. "Nice to meet you!" Sakura shook her head as she walked over to the bookshelf.

"Ino-san, this is Hinata." Gaara introduced the two. "Sakura, I'm leaving. We have dinner in about 15 minutes." He turned around and left. Ino sighed.

"My God, he gives me the creeps." Hinata laughed nervously at Ino.

"Don't worry, Gaara like that unintentionally. He's a bit intimidating, but very caring." Sakura rolled her eyes and handed the book to Ino. "He's just a bit uptight with the unfamiliar environment."

Ino smiled. "I've actually heard some things. Something about a bodyguard?" Hinata bursted into giggles.

"It's a family joke." Sakura grumbled. "We're just that close that Gaara gets a bit overprotective. So Deidara came up with bodyguard. Don't question all the bad nicknames."

"You have any? Cherry maybe?" Ino rose an eyebrow. Sakura froze.

"Not that I know of yet. Come on, why don't you eat with us today? My family seemed to take a slight interest that I made a friend so quickly." She smiled. "Let's go."

AaAaAa

"Fuck Gaara! You left her?!" Konan's eyes widened hearing Kisame's loud voice.

"You did what?!" She yelled.

"Relax, she's with Hinata." Gaara shrugged.

"I don't care whether or not she's with one of us, but you left her." Kisame growled. "She's fully capable of taking care of herself, it's just so surprising th-"

"Please stop interrogating Gaara." Sakura sat down next to the said red head, a plate of salad in her hand. "And be nice, Ino's joining us." She smiled. The pale blonde smiled a little. Ino sat down next to Sakura a bit hesitantly. "Ino, I think you remember meeting these guys the other day. But just to refresh your memory if you forgot their names, Konan, Kisame, Deidara, Sasori. And this is Neji, he's Hinata's cousin and in our History class."

"Speaking of which I heard Kakashi's teaching that class." Kisame grinned devilishly. Sakura's eyes narrowed.

"You knew about this."

"For a while, longer than you." He laughed. "Man your face is priceless." Sakura twitched and threw her fork at him, which he caught effortlessly. "You're in a bad mood. Finally hit your time of month?" He smirked again.

"Must you irritate me?" She hissed. Gaara stiffened at her tone and leaned forward, ready. Kisame immediately backed off.

"Um, Sakura. I think you're scaring Ino-san here." Hinata interrupted. Ino indeed look pale and scared out of her wits.

"Oh, sorry Ino. It's a family thing." Sakura smiled apologetically, "I didn't mean to scare you so easily." Deidara muttered something which she glared at him for.

"Is there a problem here?" Itachi appeared at the table, he shot Ino a glance. Sakura shot him a glance.

"No Uchiha, nothing's wrong. My family unintentionally scared Ino-san here. My apologies." She smiled tightly.

"Hmm, well I also heard something choke. Or was it horrendous laughing?" Itachi rose an eyebrow. Kisame immediately stood up.

"You got a problem with my voice?" He grabbed Itachi's collar threateningly.

"I was unsure whether you were choking something or laughing. Hard to tell. Especially when poor Yamanaka-san looks frightened to death. Doesn't hurt to be concerned." Itachi said calmly. Kisame scoffed.

"Itachi-san, it would us all good if you stopped tempting us." Sasori said calmly before sipping his tea.

"Hey Itachi, need help?" A silver haired man came up to them. Along with a black haired boy and green haired man. "Looks like you're having some trouble."

"I'm perfectly fine Hidan." Itachi said. Hidan eyed the group.

"Hinata, Neji." Sakura said, they nodded.

"Come on Ino-san. Let's get you to your room." Neji smiled charmingly, and Ino looked at him and flushed. She immediately got up and followed the cousins, not before shooting Sakura a worried look.

"Hey look. It's puppet boy." Hidan sneered. "Hey Tobi, I bet he has tons of dolls you can play with."

"Really?! Tobi would love that!" The black haired boy smiled and hugged himself. Sasori ignored the insult and continued drinking his tea.

"Kisame. Let Itachi-san go." Sakura took a bite of her food. Kisame let go after a few seconds. "So, you must be Itachi-san's posse." She smiled sweetly. She stood up. "Nice to meet you. I'm Hatake Sakura." Hidan narrowed his eyes. Tobi froze and dropped his arms, his face serious. The green haired man ignored her completely.

"You're a strange girl." Hidan smirked.

"I'm leaving, I'm getting so bored I'm falling asleep." Konan got up after Sakura nodded. "See ya." Suddenly another black haired man, but older looking than Tobi, came in just as Konan turned around. She noted his scars. "Seen a plastic surgeon lately?" She laughed and left.

"Either you're scaring, or not intimidating at all." The newcomer said.

"Not amusing Kakuzu." Hidan growled. "Why would it matter anyway? I thought you were counting your money." Sakura watched the exchange slowly.

"I never said I was." Kakuzu snarled.

"You don't need to." The green haired man finally said. "It's already suggested if you aren't in the room."

"Shut up Zetsu. It's not amusing." Kakuzu growled. "And who are these?"

"My new neighbors." Itachi said.

"Enemy's already?" Kakuzu sighed. Sakura's eyebrows furrowed at a new idea which she stored for later.

"Moodswing much?" Deidara chuckled. Kisame laughed slightly.

"Do you know who we are?" Hidan sneered.

"A bunch of spoiled guys who are looking for attention." Sakura smiled. "You guys are so neglected by your parents or family, you seek attention at school. Being so scary and intimidating, you do it through bullying." There was a quick movement and everyone was out of their seats. Tobi held Sakura's neck in his hand. "By your reaction, I'm guessing I'm right." He squeezed her neck.

Gaara grabbed his arm and squeezed. Tobi grunted at the pain, but continued cutting off Sakura's air supply, not that it would do much. "Let her go." When Tobi didn't move, Gaara ripped his arm away from Sakura and pushed him away. Sakura made no other reaction other than rubbing her neck a little.

"Tobi, calm down." Itachi ordered. Sakura narrowed her eyes.

"So what are you? The leader of this...attention hungry group?" She rose an eyebrow. "Come on guys. Let's go to bed." Her family moved and picked up their plates and left. Sasori was the last one who remained.

"Itachi-san. I advise you to be a bit more polite. There is a reason why we're here." Itachi suddenly felt something constrict him from moving. "And it's not because of Kakashi." He warned before bowing and picking his plate up to put away. "Have a nice evening." And he was gone. As well as the constriction. Itachi pulled a hand slowly to his face, behind it, he was smirking widely. His friends immediately knew that they had new subjects.

AaAaAa

Sakura kicked her legs while sitting on her favorite tree's branch. "That's your plan?" Gaara rose an eyebrow. "We could die. Have you not heard about them?"

"Oh trust me, they named themselves after my father's army. So they know exactly what their naming themselves after."

"You're assuming that." Gaara pointed out.

"Itachi-san seems smart enough to know what he's calling himself."

"And what of Ino-san?" The whooshing of air from her kicking stopped. From human eyes, you could see nothing, or hear nothing. Not one shed of light, not one breathe or heartbeat.

"It's best that we're not friends." Sakura finally confirmed. "Tell the others to try not to make friends. It'll lessen the pain scarred in the school when we leave. It's bad enough when the Uchiha's do."

"Hmm, one a terrifying bully, the other the class model." Gaara chuckled. He climbed up the tree effortlessly and sat next to her. "So this is the modern world."

Sakura laughed. "Bullies and models. What a twisted life." They sat there, until the sun rose. Saturday. Not just any Saturday, the beginning of the fall break. Which meant, more family time. Sakura smiled at the thought. How many people would leave the school?

"Come Gaara. Let's go get some of those nice cinnamon rolls before they run out." She jumped off, followed by Gaara.

"Does Tsunade approve of the plan?"

"She said it's worth a shot, besides, she sent a more...kinder group of people down to the western side. They're trying the plan that we were giving a shot at. Let's be honest, we're not the most friendly group."

"Let me guess who's in that group, Tenten, and Pein at least."

Sakura nodded. "And some Americans." She shrugged. "Nothing particularly special."

"Like us?"

"Like us." Sakura took a bite of the cinnamon roll and waited for the rest of the family to come in. They came in twos. They sat down.

"The plan?" Sasori asked.

"Become their worst enemies if you can't be their friend. But let's try the enemy theory. Tsunade's already sent another group to America to try the friends theory. The point is to become something that they won't ever forget. Kakashi's already doing fine with becoming friends with the older Uchihas. So he's fine as he is. He's actually on first name basis."

"Time?" Konan asked.

"The date is Christmas Day." Sakura said. "Two months. Knowing you guys, it should be really easy." She nodded.

"Do we split into two? Or do we all become both of their worst enemy?" Neji asked.

"The latter. More chances." Sakura sighed.

"Any particular method?" Kisame smirked already forming a plan.

"Just don't get into too much trouble." Sakura smirked with him. "I don't want you wasting time in detention when you can be making mortal enemies. Try to make it less than five hours of detention a week. As for those who have Kakashi, I'm assuming you have one of the Uchiha's in that class too. Do as much trouble in there. It's Kakashi, lenient and a great persuader, and has great connections."

"And if the parent's get involved?"

"Then they get mad at Kakashi, make enemies. Same plan."

"Already told him?"

"We had a meeting with Tsunade. So it's pretty much settled."

"Great!" Deidara smiled widely. "I like this plan way better." Konan nodded in agreement.

"So I'm guessing your time limit is not a problem?"

"Two months? Way too easy, especially with their temper." Kisame snorted.

Sakura sighed. "Whatever, just get it done." She thought. Suddenly she tilted her head to the side. And a knife was in Kisame's twitching hand.

"That would've hit me you know." He twitched.

"Would you rather it went through my head?" Sakura rose an eyebrow. "I think not." She turned around and shot a glare at a very suspicious looking Hidan. She shrugged. "We got their attention though." Kisame smirked.

"Shall we?" Deidara offered the spoon with some white gunk he found somewhere.

"Of course." Kisame smirked. "Duck pinky." He pulled back the dip of the cheap plastic and aimed at the silver haired man. Sakura turned to Hinata, talking. And leaned in, in some anticipation for gossip, as Kisame let go of the dip, and the gunk flew out of it, and Sakura leaned back just after it passed her.

It hit Hidan's head. He turned and saw Sakura laughing with Hinata, immediately bringing the blame to her. He got up and stalked towards them. "You!" He picked Sakura up by the collar. "You did this!" He pointed at his messed up hair.

"Never knew you cared so much about your hair. Sorry, next time I'll tell them to aim somewhere else." Sakura smiled. Kisame stood up.

"Let her go Hidan." He growled.

"Overprotective. Hmm, and I thought it was this guy who was her bodyguard." Hidan kicked Gaara's chair. The next moment Hidan was flat on his back, under Gaara's foot.

"Perhaps if you were a bit more observant, you would've dodged it. Sakura here was able to dodge that fork you threw at her. A bit more deadlier than-"

"Actually, if I were you I'd wash that out right now." Deidara smirked. "If you feel something burning in your scalp, than you're in trouble." He leaned back in his chair. "Oh wait...forget everything I just said. Let him burn." He laughed. As Hidan scrambled up and ran to his room.

"Don't be an idiot." Sasori muttered. "You're making enemies with the wrong person."

"Well he probably as close as a friend to Uchiha than anything. And they seem like...a pack."

"If their a pack, then we're a cult." Konan giggled. "Besides, he has a point Sasori. Itachi's the 'leader' so we mess with
one of them, mess with all of them. It's just modern day gang stuff. Typical." She tsked.

"Yeah Sasori! You seem so against this plan." Sakura hugged the red head's neck from behind. "What's up?" Sasori remained silent. "Oh...right. Well!...um...it's Tsunade's orders. Be their friend if you can. But make enemies if you can't." She smiled.

Konan gave Deidara a confused look. He explained. "We were in a gang similar to them. And Itachi reminds him of an old friend of ours."

"Speak of the devil." Neji muttered.

"Hey Uchiha!" Deidara waved at him. "Why don't you sit with us? You have a better chance of getting your revenge better here." He smirked widely.

"I heard what you did to Hidan. Quite creative, no wonder you're in AP Chemistry."

"Glad you approve. Want a sample?" Deidara smiled as he held up a spoon with white gunk on it.

"No thank you." Itachi narrowed his eyes.

Sakura took a picture just as he turned around. Suddenly her face turned dark as she smirked. "Idea! Come on Hinata, Konan. Stay here Gaara. Help these guys out." Her eyes sparkled as she walked towards her room.

It was quiet.

"You're in deep shit man." Kisame chuckled. "You're going to be fucking mauled!" He laughed. Gaara sighed.

"Stop exaggerating things." He rolled his eyes.

"That's not exaggerating, especially with how weak these guys are."

"What'd you say?" Kakuzu threatened, suddenly appearing out of no where.

"You're one creepy man." Deidara snickered. "Oh wait. That was out loud. Sorry." He smiled.

"Why you!" Kakuzu lunged at him. Which was easily dodged. Kakuzu immediately rebounded and threw a punch at him.

"Mah, mah." Deidara grabbed the hand. "We don't want to bring too much attention to ourselves do we?" He looked meaningfully at the frightful students who watched them warily. "But if you want a fight, I can't disagree with that." He squeezed his hand, and smirked hearing a snap. Kakuzu howled in pain and pulled back harshly.

"There was no need to be so hasty." Itachi tilted his head, eyes narrowed. "You had no need to break his hand."

Deidara frowned. "Break? That easily...Wo-" Sasori threw his cup at his ribs, affectively cutting his sentence off. "What did I do?"

"Shut up you idiot." He hissed.

"Why the hell should it matter?!" Deidara waved his hands in the air.

"What ever happened to make enemies?" Konan walked in. "You broke a hand? Already?" She mumbled and Sasori scoffed.

"Told you Sasori!" The blonde pouted. Konan ignored them and pulled up her phone.

"Check it out." She smirked. Deidara grabbed it and looked at the screen. "It's genius right?" She laughed.

"She has her moments." Deidara snickered with her. "Uchiha, if fangirls start mauling you, it wasn't us." He laughed at Tobi's face.

"Let me see that." Kisame pushed Deidara and grabbed the phone before it dropped on the floor. First he gawked...then he laughed uncontrollably. "That little punk!" He laughed.

Sakura as if on cue walked in Hinata next to her. She immediately dodged a lunge. "What was that for?" She looked at Tobi who was flat on his face.

"I wanted to huuuuuuuuuug you!"

...

"Do you have a multiple personality disorder, or are you just stupid?" Sakura sighed. Tobi pouted.

"That was rude." He said, she stiffened and glared.

"You want to see rude?"

"What's going on here?!" Kakashi barged in. "Answer me!"

"Kakashi, you realize you only gave us a second to process that question before you demanded an answer." Sasori pointed out blandly.

"Oh..." Kakashi thought, "Right! Answer me!"

"Nothing father." Konan hissed. "Just some horsing around, right Uchiha?"

Itachi looked at her, eyes narrowed, "Ah."

AaAaAa

Sakura stared out the window. Gaara was sitting on her bed, tapping his fingers in anticipation. "You think?"

"Sakura, the chances are one in a million."

"But there's still a chance." She sighed.

"Stop hoping, it won't happen." He mumbled, Sakura's sensitive ears heard it though and she shrugged.

"I love my mother. I'm sorry I'm moping after she killed herself." She snapped at him. "So just shut up."

"Feisty." Gaara sighed.

"Leave Kotetsu." He waved off the black haired man.

"Hmph. I was just wondering how Sakura-chan was." He smirked. "Heard about your mom." He pulled on a sad face. "I'm sorry. Maybe you'll get lucky and find her."

"If only." Sakura muttered. And Kotetsu left. "Not the best with luck you know?" She mumbled grimly. Gaara sighed as he looked out the regular window, watching the small children running around. When he heard the door close, he turned around and she was gone. He opened the other window and watched the scene as the Haruno family cried.

He leaned against the frame as he watched.
